  • Mom, Dad we met in a bar....

    When we were born

No it wasn't a blind date(like my parents), no he didn't save me from a runaway train and I certainly did not save him from adesolate life of bachelorhood in the American West. We met in a bar. A college bar, which might be even worse. I was just getting used to the singledom again when life decided that I'm better with someone than without.
I was perched a top a sticky bar stool invariably exchanging barbs with Ashley about the unfortunate older men on the prowl there, when a young man began making comments about my outfit choice. Not only were the comments not funny but completely unoriginal..two things I don't have time for. But Ashley realizing that I was about to shut this guy down encouraged me "to be nice."
Dude turned about to be a piece of work but like many of those kind of people he had a tolerant friend who was along for the ride. That friend caught my attention. He introduced himself as Josh, apologize for dude's behavior and we didn't see eachother again.
Fast forward later in the weekend and we run into eachother again at a place that would soon become one of our favorite bars, Uncle Fester's(Silver Dollar Disco for those of you IUers of the past). Of course it was theme night and I had on my best '70's gym outfit all so I could save the $3 cover. Numbers were exchanged, crappy beer was bought and the start of one those "let's be friends" things began.
By the end of the summer we bucked up and used the "boyfriend/girlfriend" terminology. Which was infintely harder to determine than the whole getting married idea. A year and one more dog later we got engaged in June in a lovely proposal a the fine dining establishment he worked at and a move to Napa Valley followed shortly after. We're now in our childhood phase. Our pictures are still cute, wait until our 30's and our "adolescence" will usher in those awkward fam pics..where we look tired but our kids are cute.
